It's sad that all Rei's friends have died except him, I suppose those were the good days he ever had. Even Elena (Haibara's mom) who was kind to him when he was a child have died. Until he joined the PSB.

Yep! That was his strong suit when he was in the force. Great shooter, same skill that made him quit. That being said, his other necessary skills are... subpar? Although it's notable that Kogoro is a decently well built man and can fight to a degree.

Mainly referring to his detective skills seem to be rather bad.

Refresher below:
Matsuda died from a bomb. The location was set to show in the last 3 seconds, he remained on the ferris wheel so the next bomb could be diffused. He confessed to Satou via text before he died and resembles Takagi a bit.
Date died from a criminal's hit and run. This lead to a bunch of shit in one of the MPDLs.
Hagiwara died from a bomb. The originally diffused bomb started ticking again, he wasn't wearing the protection outfit.
Hiromitsu went undercover with Rei as Scotch. He committed suicide after Akai confronted him and the sound of Rei's footsteps spooked him.

Love that they’re doing this separate story to give the back story of Amuro, Masuda etc. I hope one day they do this with a character like Vermouth

Ok this episode was very bittersweet. On one hand I'm so happy to get to see them all together but on the other hand it's sad to know that all of them died leaving Rei/Zero all alone. But like I'm still here simping over Zero so I'm not complaining.

I thought the police instructor's voice, Onidzuka Hachizo (48) sounded so familiar and he is. He is voiced by Otsuka Hochu, and he has voiced Jiraiya and Urokodaki Sakonji.

Mmmm, nonono. That's incredibly dangerous and ineffective.

1: if he's hanging like that but he's low enough, why not try to lift him up by at least stacking some people.
2: Shooting guns indoors is highly dangerous because rounds RICHOCHET. This is one of the more dangerous parts to guns, not that shooting the bullet at someone is, but that the bullet can ricochet and hit multiple other people (it's possible).
3: Why shoot from so far with a handgun that is already off with the one shot you have to save him? Why not try to get onto the balcony or at least run just a little closer for a better angle (if he's closer, he's closer and has a larger profile of the rope to shoot.
4: Is the instructor really that weak that he can't lift himself above the rope even while he's getting help from below?

They've gotta lecture those 5 on shooting guns indoors like that. Could've seriously injured someone else with a bad ricochet. Yea, they got pardoned, but it SERIOUSLY wasn't the route to go.

overall a nice adaptation, looks pretty faithful to the manga version. tbh I can think of a couple of ways they could've saved Onizuka faster, but this is the fanservice arc for those 5 so I won't complain. I wonder when the next ep. is going to be.
